SUMMARY:Okanagan Zonal Virtual Conference – Topic: Emotional Health in our Schools (Keynote)
DESCRIPTION:Emotional Health in our Schools\nChildren are more anxious, aggressive, and shut down than ever. We were seeing this epidemic of emotional health crises and behavioral problems before COVID 19 and are now watching as these behaviours only intensify during this turbulent time. Teachers are asking themselves what has happened. More importantly, what can we do to support our students and create shifts in our classrooms and schools? Based on the book Reclaiming Our Students: Why Children Are More Anxious, Aggressive, and Shut-Down than Ever—and What We Can Do About It – this workshop will support educators with relationship-based strategies for creating change. This workshop will examine and offer strategies for:\n\n– How to build, feed, and protect the student-teacher relationship, even for the students we find the most challenging to reach.\n– Why children are displaying more challenging behaviours than ever, and what we can do to address these issues at their root. Based on the developmental insights of Dr. Gordon Neufeld, we will explore some of what is behind the challenging behaviours that we see in our students. What’s the emotion behind aggression? What are some ways we can reduce outbursts of aggression in our classrooms?\n– How we can help our students and classes to shift their identity as the “problem student” or “bad class”\n\nSchedule\nKeynotes:                 8:30 am to 10:00 am\nMorning Session:    Hannah will also host a follow-up session to the Keynote from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm\nClick here ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_27q2CCZXZheMpt1eTFsUfBbSZ4HdCsc7RFmcXYnlFE/edit?usp=sharing ) to see the sessions and descriptions.\nSign up on Eventbrite and the registration will commence on January 28th, 2022.\n\nFees\n– Teachers SD #19, #22, #23, #53, #67, #83: No charge (Paid by local)\n– CUPE SD# 23 (support staff): no charge (SD# 23 will look after)\n– CUPE SD# 19, 22, 53, 67, and 83: $35/full or part day ECE: $35/full or part day\n– UBCO Interns/Teacher Candidates: UBCO covers\n– Others: ALL Other Districts and ALL Administrators: $70/full or part day\n \nOkanagan Zonal Virtual Conference (Keynote) Okanagan Zonal Virtual Conference (Keynote)\n
