You’ve got to check out these fabulous videos from Tory White! Tory is the Principal of St. Bernadette’s Elementary School in Ottawa (OCSB) and one of the most inspiring leaders I’ve met. After attending one of my full-day workshops on play, she took everything to heart and went full steam ahead to transform her school into one that embraces play to build emotional health, resilience, and community. And it’s working fantastically!
I’ve been hearing from so many educators around the world asking, “What could this look like at our school?” “What if we only have a cement yard?” “How do we make loose parts work without losing or breaking everything?” “And what about those playground soccer games that get so intense they stop being fun?”
So, I asked Tory if she’d share how her school is Re-thinking Recess. In true Tory fashion, she said an enthusiastic yes (thank you, Tory!).
Over the next four weeks, I’ll be sharing a short video from Tory each week as she walks through real-life examples of what made play successful at her school and how it’s transforming her community.
In this first video, Tory shares how her school began its journey … starting small, building buy-in, and creating a culture where play is truly valued. (Hint: it all began with hula hoops!)
Here’s Week 1’s video, a wonderful place to begin your own journey toward bringing more play into your school.
Stay tuned for next week’s video … you won’t want to miss it!
